Project Title Mothers’ constructions of their role in their child’s treatment for anorexia nervosa: A discourse analysis. Project Description Very few studies have researched parents’ experiences or perceptions of the treatment process in the context of caring for a child with anorexia nervosa, although NHS NICE guidelines and various studies recommend that parents or caregivers be very involved in treatment. This study aims to explore how mothers talk about their role in their child’s treatment, and will contribute to knowledge of eating disorder treatment in the context of working with parents. Recruitment criteria: Mothers who are caring for, or have cared for a child with a diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa. Participants will be required to take part in an interview of approximately an hour in length to discuss their experiences of treatment and perceptions of their role in caring for their child in treatment and recovery. The interviews will take place an appropriate and convenient location and will be audio-recorded. There are also possibilities for telephone or skype interviews. Confidentiality of the Data Names and any identifying information of the participants will be changed immediately following interview and coded to ensure confidentiality throughout the write up procedure. The data will then be stored on a password protected computer to which only the principal researcher will have access. The interview recordings will be deleted following the transcription process and all related data will be deleted or shredded safely following submission of the project. Information provided by participants will be used only for the completion of this study. Location Interviews will take place at an appropriate and convenient location agreed by participant and researcher.
